Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute Classes

Yoga and Meditation Classes

each Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer 

     for cancer patients, survivors, and care givers. 

Classes are grant funded and free of charge to participants. 

Students must register to participate.

Classes will start in February of 2022, and run through end of April, 2022.  See below for particular dates for each class. 

Although it is best to begin at the beginning and follow through to the end of each class, students may begin any class at any time.

 2 - 3 pm  Gentle Beginning Yoga  10 week class  

                       Feb 14, 21, 28, March 7, 14, * 28, April 4, 11, 18, 25


 3:15 - 4:15 pm  YCaT Yoga   8 week class This class is especially for persons currently in treatment for cancer or other chronic illness, or within

 about 8 months of completing active treatment. This class focuses on 

  gentle movement, breathing and relaxation exercises to help you main-

   tain your current range of motion, increase energy, reduce pain, improve

    sleep, and reduce stress.   We only go down to the floor if everyone in

     class is able to get down and back up.  Most of what we do is done in

      a sturdy chair, like a kitchen or dining room or metal folding chair.

 3:15 - 4:15  pm  Chair Yoga   2 sessions of 4 meetings each

                     In this class we use a sturdy chair, like a kitchen, dining 

                       room or metal folding chair.   Mostly we are seated but 

                        sometimes we will be standing near the chair.  We do 

                         not go down to the floor in this class.




 9:30 - 10:30 am  Mindfulness Meditation and Breathing Exercises

                          for relaxation and concentration

                              2 sessions of 3 meetings each.

      Session 1:  Feb 10, 17, 24    Session 2:   March 31, April 7, 14


  7 - 8 pm  Yoga Nidra   This class is for deep relaxation.  We begin with

            very gentle movement in a chair.  Then, we move to a reclined 

            position - on floor, couch, bed - wherever you are most 

             comfortable.  People often fall asleep during this deep relaxation.

                      Feb 20            March 13          April 10

        Lymphatic Drainage self massage class   offered usually once in 

  Spring and once in Fall.   This class is for people who are dealing with 

   pooling lymph in their tissues as a result of surgery or radiation.  

    Helpers or care givers are encouraged to take this class, too.   You will

     learn about the lymphatic system and how to manually help the lymph

      move out of the tissues and back into the circulation system.
