Classes

All classes are beginner friendly, some are a bit more challenging than others, but students are encouraged to listen to their bodies as they try different movements and postures.    Sue has mats, blocks, belts and blankets available for students to use, but students are encouraged to bring their own mats and props if they have them.  Many of Sue's props are available for sale.    Most classes are 1 hour.   For all classes, students are encouraged to wear layers to help control heating and cooling for their own bodies.   Room temperatures are difficult to change quickly.

Yoga: Mindful Movement  aka Gentle Hatha Yoga

All levels welcome.  In these classes we work on basic postures and break down complex postures into component parts.  Focus is on breathing efficiently and moving mindfully while building strength, flexibility and balance.  These classes are very beginner friendly while offering continuing students the opportunity to slow down and go a little deeper into their practice.

Adaptive Yoga

All levels welcome.  This class is particularly for persons with mobility challenges from disability, injury or long term limited mobility/sedentary life style.  Although props are available for all classes, in this class, we usually don't get down on the floor (unless all students present are able to get up and down from floor).  We use chairs to sit in and to hold onto for balance with standing postures.   If you use an attendant for transfer and/or activities of daily living, bring your attendant to class.

Yin Yoga

All levels welcome.  This is a very quiet meditative practice during which we stretch the myofascia, or connective tissue, of the body.  We hold stretches for several minutes at a time while we breathe, feel and release to gravity.  The energy meridians of the body are within this connective tissue.  Gentle stretching of these tissues can rehabilitate the joints and give a lighter, more fluid, more energetic feel and function to the body.  The focus is on the joints of the back and hips, but because the connective tissue is continuous throughout the body, benefits can be expected throughout the body.

Slow Flow

All levels welcome.  This is a moving practice.  We really focus on moving with the breath through a series of short vinyasas.  We will hold poses for a few breaths and then flow into the next... Wear layers.  You may get very warm while moving and then you will cool down a lot when you become still at the end of class.

Short Form Astanga Yoga

All levels welcome.  This dynamic practice will get you moving and sweating and feeling strong and energized.   This is a short form based on the Primary Series.  The class is taught in the follow-the-yogini-style, that is, Sue is practicing along with the students and calling out what she's doing.  Students follow along as best they can while remembering to listen to their own bodies.  It is offered in the early morning. For this class only, you must bring your own mat.  Mats and other props are not provided for this class.  Everyone is responsible for bringing any needed items. You might also want to bring a bottle of water, a hand towel, a blanket and several layers of clothes - you will get hot and then you will cool down considerably at the end of class.

Mindfulness Meditation

All levels welcome.  30 minute class.  Sitting, silent, Mindfulness Meditation, that is....watching the breath, feeling body sensations....basic instruction is given.....lots of silence for practice.   There is no charge for this practice at this time.
